Home Skirting board heating: all Thermodul models and how to choose

Thermodul skirting board heating: a complete guide to available models

Baseboard heating isn’t a one-size-fits-all system. Thermodul was created to meet a variety of design needs, which is why the range includes five distinct models, each designed for a specific context: from a single renovated room to a large public space, from a second home without plumbing to a space with walls unavailable for traditional installation.

Knowing the differences between models is the first step to choosing the right one and getting the most out of your system.

1. Water Skirting Board — the classic radiant system

The water model is the traditional version of the Thermodul system: an aluminum furnishing element that conceals a heating core with finned copper flow and return pipes. PVC connection bends and accessories complete the aesthetics .

Who is it suitable for?

It’s the ideal choice for new construction and complete renovations where hydraulic distribution with valved manifolds is planned. These manifolds allow for precise and independent temperature regulation for each room or zone, with fine-tuning of flow rates in the various circuits.

System flexibility
  • Compatible with any type of boiler, thermo-fireplace or heat pump.
  • It can replace or integrate an existing system.
  • Time-based management with a thermostat or chronothermostat, or in continuous mode with a climate control unit and external probe.
  • It does not require invasive masonry work.
Technical data
  • Height: 137 mm
  • Depth: 29 mm
  • Certification: EN442, tested at the Energy Department of the Polytechnic University of Milan

2. Electric Skirting Board — maximum efficiency without a plumbing connection

The electric model consists of the standard furnishing element and an internal profile containing an armored heating element. It includes an aluminum profile for the passage of connection cables and accessories for the aesthetic completion.

Who is it suitable for?

It’s the natural choice when installing a plumbing system isn’t possible or cost-effective: second homes, spaces with intermittent use, apartments where you don’t want to work on existing pipes, and low-energy homes. Thanks to its short warm-up times, it can be turned on only when needed, optimizing consumption.

Advantages
  • No masonry work, quick installation.
  • Minimum initial investment.
  • Regulation via thermostat, chronothermostat or radio frequency remote control — even without laying cables.
  • Particularly convenient when combined with photovoltaic systems.
Technical data
  • Height: 137 mm
  • Depth: 29 mm

3. Bivalent skirting board — heating always working, in any conditions

The Bivalent model is a radiant heating system that integrates both the water and electric heat exchangers into a single system, operating alternately. When the water system is unavailable—due to schedules set by a centralized system or a boiler malfunction—the electric system comes into operation.

Who is it suitable for?

For those who want the security of continuous heating without relying on a single energy source. It is particularly suitable for contexts with centralized systems with time slots, homes where the boiler is not always reliable, and environments where you want to maximize the performance of the photovoltaic system.

Main features
  • Water and electricity in one system — they work one at a time.
  • Bypass the timetables of centralized systems.
  • It compensates for boiler malfunctions.
  • Interesting solution also in combination with a photovoltaic system.
Technical data
  • Height: 137 mm
  • Depth: 29 mm
  • EN442 certification for the water component, tested at the Polytechnic University of Milan.

4. Twice Solution skirting board — for large spaces and high heating needs

The Twice Solution is the smart solution for spaces requiring higher thermal output than a standard system can provide. It is designed to meet high heating needs in large spaces such as churches, recreation centers, schools, and gyms, but also for any space where the available walls are insufficient to cover the needs with a traditional system.

Who is it suitable for?

Large-volume environments, public or semi-public spaces, and buildings where the perimeter installation area is small compared to the total heating requirement.

Technical data
  • Height: 247 mm
  • Depth: 29 mm
  • EN442 certified, tested at the Polytechnic University of Milan.

5. Double Solution Skirting Board — where walls aren’t enough

The Double Solution is the model featuring: a double-sided radiant skirting board with floor fixing, designed to heat rooms where it is not possible or advisable to install the system along the perimeter walls.

Who is it suitable for?

Spaces with large windows, fitted walls, exposed stone cladding: all those settings where the perimeter wall is occupied or unavailable for traditional installation. The Double Solution enters the floor, radiates on both sides, and guarantees double the thermal output of the standard system, thanks to its double-sided design.

Main features
  • Floor fixing, not wall fixing.
  • Double-sided radiation: double the thermal output compared to the standard system.
  • Available in the electric version with channel for fixing and cable passage.
  • Effective solution for spaces where perimeter installation is not practicable.
Technical data
  • Height: 137 mm
  • Depth: 54 mm

Which model to choose? A quick guide

The choice of model depends mainly on three factors: the availability of a plumbing system, the characteristics of the space to be heated and the need for continuity or flexibility of management.

  • Already have plumbing or are you doing a complete renovation? → Water-Baseboards.
  • Don’t have plumbing or are you furnishing a second home? → Electric Skirting Board.
  • Do you want heating security even in the event of a breakdown or centralized schedules? → Dual-Purpose Skirting Board.
  • Do you have a large space with high heating needs? → Twice Solution skirting boards.
  • Are your walls unavailable for installation? Do you have large windows or exposed cladding? → Double Solution Skirting Board.

In any case, the correct sizing of the system requires a specific assessment: the Thermodul technical office analyses the structural characteristics of the building and the climatic conditions of the area to provide a complete technical proposal.
